A Pen That Rewrites Taiwan’s Cultural History—Revisiting the Nativist Literature Movement

In the 1970s, Taiwan was confronted with a series of diplomatic setbacks. Young people began to explore their identity, which led to the birth and popularity of the campus folk song genre. Meanwhile, non-fiction novels and naïve art drew people’s attention. This propelled the Nativist Literature Movement, and further led to the rise of political and social movements in the 1980s. This documentary interviews Yang Tsu-chun, Parangalan, Wang Jin-ping, Su Ching-li, Chang Chaowei, Chiang Hsun, and Tao Hsiao-ching.
