The date-rape and murder case of an elementary school teacher named Huang Jing was one of China’s “10 most influential litigation cases” in 2005. Director Ai Xiaoming spent three and a half years to capture Huang’s mother’s strenuous journey to fight injustice. Through the director’s lens, viewers see the awakening of Chinese people’s civic consciousness, women’s fight against judicial corruption, and actions against sexual violence.
