Folk Songs on the Plain—The Story of an Abducted Girl

In the rural villages in northern China, one way for poor men to get married is to find brides in Yunnan. Traffickers also target women in Yunnan. Abduction and trafficking are rampant, spreading to Guangxi, Guizhou, and Sichuan.

A teenage girl in Yunnan was abducted and sold as a bride to a man in a rural mountain village. Every day, she looked at the winding mountain road and thought of her home. Ten years passed, and she was finally allowed to go home. But how was it possible for her to leave her child behind? Life was not giving her any choice.
