Street Children, the Forgotten Angels

There are more than 100 million children in the world who live on the streets. They do not have the chance to receive education, nor do they have access to health care. They are the targets of exploitation and violence. In La Paz, the capital of Bolivia, which is one of the poorest countries in South America, tens of thousands of girls live on the streets. Their average age is 14; 90% of them have been physically abused, and more than 90% of them are using drugs. More than half of these girls have been pregnant before, and more than 38% of them have been molested. Knowing this, Chi Cheng Huang, a Taiwanese American young man who graduated from Harvard Medical School, and the author of the book When Invisible Children Sing, launches his medical mission and rescue project. What has he seen?

In Haiti, 300,000 children live on the streets, surrounded by dangers. Many of them are sold as slaves, and the chance for them to escape is very low. In the film, Michael Brewer, an American registered nurse dedicated to rescuing street children, shares with the audience the harms and cruelty the children endured, and his complicated feelings of powerlessness and inadequacy.
